Manchester United news and transfers LIVE Latest on Paul Pogba's future and manager speculation

The international break has so far not been overly kind to Manchester United on the injury front.

Midfielder Paul Pogba suffered a thigh injury in France's first training session on Monday, meaning, according to reports in France, that could now be sidelined for up to ten weeks, Edinson Cavani has not linked up with the Uruguay squad because of a tendon injury and Luke Shaw played no part in England's win over Albania at Wembley Stadium.

However, Harry Maguire shook off his poor form at club level to score for his country on Friday evening in what United will hope to be a boost to his confidence.

Meanwhile, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is continuing to be strongly linked with becoming United's next manager if they decide to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, amid ongoing pressure.

Five players United could offload in January.
The January transfer window is quickly approaching and Manchester United could use it to their advantage.

United have had a difficult start to the season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job hangs in the balance after some humiliating results to fierce rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

They currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, have been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and qualification to the Champions League knockout stages is yet to be secured.

January will give the chance for Solskjaer to freshen things up, either by bringing in a new recruit to the side or trimming the fat on his bulging squad.
The story of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Cardiff City exit
There are plenty of differences between Cardiff City and Manchester United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer found out all about them during a nine-month stint in South Wales.

“He was stepping into a really toxic situation. I thought he was asking for trouble."

There weren't many Cardiff fans who thought differently to Bluebirds author and blogger Scott Johnson, when assessing the situation Solskjaer inherited upon his appointment at the club in January 2014.

The United legend had earned his coaching stripes within the familiar and warm environment of the Old Trafford academy, as reserves boss, still working under long-time mentor Sir Alex Ferguson, before returning home to manage Molde in Norway. But it was in the Welsh capital where Solskjaer really cut his teeth, appointed as Malky Mackay's successor midway through Cardiff's debut Premier League season.
Latest manager odds
A poor start to the 2021-22 season, including heavy losses on home soil to their biggest rivals in Liverpool and Manchester City, have led to many supporters doubting the credentials of the incumbent coach to take the team forward.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United considered sacking Solskjaer after the 5-0 hammering by Liverpool and he is said to remain at risk of losing his job.

It's understood that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has admirers at Old Trafford despite being a former Liverpool manager, although a lot of supporters have been making the case for Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

Berbatov speaks out
Dimitar Berbatov insists that managing Manchester United is still one of the most desirable jobs in football.

The Red Devils haven’t won a Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012/13 season.

United have enjoyed a moderate amount of success in cup competitions since then, but have failed to mount a serious title challenge since they last won the crown.

Under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the club are continuing to labour in the chase for domestic honours, with United sixth in the table. Nine points behind leaders Chelsea.
"Make or break"
Steve McClaren says Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Manchester United is "make or break" for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Reds continue in their rough patch.

United's derby defeat to Manchester City last time out added more misery and another blemish on their record for the season as they were handed their third Premier League home defeat of the season.

Ronaldo, though, on a number of occasions, has pulled United out of the lurch but has cut a frustrated figure when results haven't gone their way - namely the incident when he marched down the tunnel after Rafa Benitez's Everton held them to a draw.

The saga continues...
Micah Richards has defended Harry Maguire amid criticism from Roy Keane over the Manchester United captain's "embarrassing" goal celebration.

The United captain rose highest to nod in the opener as England brushed Albania aside to put them within touching distance of qualification for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Maguire celebrated his goal by wheeling away cupping his ears before knee sliding with his fingers in his ears, taken by some to be directed at recent criticism of his form for United.
Maguire picked the wrong target - OPINION
Harry Maguire probably picked the wrong target when he celebrated scoring for England at Wembley.

Although the United captain didn't really elaborate on his celebration after the routine 5-0 win on Friday night, other than to say it "just came naturally to me", in truth it didn't really need much explaining.

Maguire has been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism, particularly between October and November breaks.

He was rushed back into the team to face Leicester City on October 16 after one training session, having missed three weeks with a calf injury. He was poor at the King Power Stadium, looking well short of fitness and also affected by the heckles which came his way from supporters of his former club.

That defeat in the East Midlands was the start of a disastrous three weeks for United.
OGS deserves (some) sympathy - Cole
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains on thin ice at Old Trafford as United prepare to return from the international break.

Alarming defeats to Liverpool and City have left their Premier League title hopes in tatters after only 11 games this season.

But does the Norwegian deserve (some) sympathy? Coral ambassador Joe Cole thinks so;

"You have to feel for a Ole in a certain way because he always seems to be 90 minutes from a crisis. They are off it. They have backed him. We'd said this year will be the make or break. They have to compete for silverware. On their day they can beat anyone - Man United - they have quality, but they haven't addressed the balance in midfield".

Henderson given United transfer advice
Dean Henderson has been advised to leave United at the earliest opportunity - amid transfer links with Newcastle United.

In a seismic yet controversial £305million deal, the Magpies have new owners after a consortium backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) struck up an agreement with their now-former chairman Mike Ashley.

It's a takeover which will see them emerge as major players in the transfer market.

According to reports, Henderson has been earmarked as a possible Newcastle target for the January window as the England goalkeeper continues to play second fiddle to David de Gea at United.

Having displaced the long-serving Spaniard last season, the 24-year-old graduate missed a large chunk of pre-season through Covid-19 and has only made one Carabao Cup appearance, so far, this campaign.
United told Tchouameni price - reports
United have been told they will have to pay somewhere between €45-50million (£38-43m) to stand any chance of signing highly-rated AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

That's according to a report by Italian news outlet Tuttosport, as cited by the Mirror, who claim Monaco will refuse any offer below that price.

Tchouameni, who will turn 22 in January, is one of the most highly-rated players in the world and is being linked with several elite clubs across Europe.

United resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to Watford on November 20 and are likely to try and bring in a new central defensive-midfielder next year after failing to land one during the summer.

England provide Shaw injury update
England manager Gareth Southgate says United left-back Luke Shaw will likely miss Monday's clash with San Marino.

Shaw was pulled out of the Three Lions squad earlier in the week after sustaining a head injury during the 2-0 defeat to City before the international break.

The defender has been following concussion protocol since and it would now appear he will miss the team's final World Cup qualifying match.
