Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Man Utd boss says fans will 'see a reaction'

Image
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says fans will "see a reaction" when his side take on Watford on Saturday (15:00 GMT). United are sixth in the table after a run of just four wins in 12 games. Following the international break, the 48-year-old says that everyone at the club is working together to turn their form around. "The players, staff, myself and club are working toward one goal; to improve and get better results," he said. United have surprised many observers by sticking with Solskjaer after their poor run, with two of their four wins in 12 coming through late winners and another after an injury-time David de Gea penalty save. The comprehensive nature of the 2-0 home defeat by Manchester City immediately before the international break made the result, in its own way, as demoralising as the record 5-0 home loss to Liverpool a fortnight before. United's embarrassing 5-0 defeat was their heaviest ever at home to Liverpool, as well as...

Barcelona are "working silently" on a deal to lure Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah to the Nou Camp, with new boss Xavi wanting the 29-year-old "at all costs". Manchester United news and transfers LIVE Latest on Paul Pogba's future and manager speculation

The international break has so far not been overly kind to Manchester United on the injury front. Midfielder Paul Pogba suffered a thigh injury in France's first training session on Monday, meaning, according to reports in France, that could now be sidelined for up to ten weeks, Edinson Cavani has not linked up with the Uruguay squad because of a tendon injury and Luke Shaw played no part in England's win over Albania at Wembley Stadium. However, Harry Maguire shook off his poor form at club level to score for his country on Friday evening in what United will hope to be a boost to his confidence. Meanwhile, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is continuing to be strongly linked with becoming United's next manager if they decide to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, amid ongoing pressure. Five players United could offload in January. The January transfer window is quickly approaching and Manchester United could use it to their advantage. United have had a difficult start to the s...

Small group of Manchester United fans hold protest against Glazers at Old Trafford

Image
A small group of Manchester United supporters on Saturday protested against the club’s owners at Old Trafford. With United not in action during the international break, a protest had been planned on social media by fans as they continue to voice their opposition to the Glazer family. Green and gold images – which have been synonymous with previous protests in reference to the club’s original colours when they were founded as Newton Heath – were shared along with the #GlazerOut hashtag by supporters as the protest was organised for 3pm outside the club’s ground. Some of the images shared also contained the #OleOut hashtag as some fans called for a change in manager amid the ongoing pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but were met with criticism. Nevertheless, a small group of supporters congregated outside of Old Trafford, with footage of the protest being shared on social media. Fans held banners with the message “enough is enough” as they continued their calls for the Glazer...

The international break has so far not been overly kind to Manchester United on the injury front. Midfielder Paul Pogba suffered a thigh injury in France's first training session on Monday, meaning, according to reports in France, that could now be sidelined for up to ten weeks, Edinson Cavani has not linked up with the Uruguay squad because of a tendon injury and Luke Shaw will play no part in England's clash with Albania at Wembley this evening. Shaw went off for United against Manchester City last Saturday with a head injury and is still following medical advice, with strict rules concerning players who have suffered concussions. England boss Gareth Southgate remains unsure if Shaw will even be available for Monday's trip to San Marino, meaning Harry Maguire, currently, is the only United player available in the squad. Meanwhile, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is continuing to be strongly linked with becoming United's next manager if they decide t...

Victor Lindelof's Sweden howler has Manchester United fans all saying the same thing

Image
Victor Lindelof's season reached a new low on Wednesday night. The Manchester United defender, part of a back line at Old Trafford that has shipped 11 goals in the last four matches, dropped a clanger for Sweden in World Cup qualifying at Georgia. Georgia were already 1-0 ahead thanks to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia when he picked the ball up on the halfway line and thought about making himself a hero. Kvaratskhelia headed for Lindelof and the United defender, inexplicably, tried to clear the ball rather than make a tackle and ended up whacking it against the Georgia winger, who was given a clear run on goal and slotted home past Robin Olsen. Although Georgia are unlikely to qualify for next year's World Cup in Qatar and Sweden are two points clear of Spain at the top of Group B, Lindelof will want to forget his error soon. His mistake comes a day after an interview was published in which he addressed criticism of United and their form this season. “When you play for Unite...

Odegaard deletes his Twitter account: There is a lot of sh*t on there

Image
The Arsenal midfielder doesn't believe having social media is important Martin Odegaard has not enjoyed the best of seasons at Arsenal so far, and he has taken the surprising decision of deleting his Twitter account. The 22-year-old has received some criticism online and, when asked about his decision to come off of Twitter, he explained that social media does more harm than good. "It's been a while since [my Twitter account was active], really. It was really because I never used it and had no need for it," Odegaard said to TV2 in Norway. "I never used it and had no need for it. I think a lot of sh*t in general is on there. I have no need to be on it. I probably did not have a Twitter update for a long time, then I thought there was no point in having it, so then I just deleted it." Odegaard was once viewed at Real Madrid as being one of the brightest stars of the future, making his official debut for the club aged 16 and becoming the youngest de...

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo has been tipped to make a sensational move to Barcelona by one of the club's former presidency candidates. Toni Freixa was asked if Barca should make an attempt to sign the Portuguese megastar, and the ex-board member agreed with the outlandish suggestion. "If there is a time to do this madness it is now," he said in a quote published on SportWitness via AS. It would be a stunning U-turn from Ronaldo should he decide to leave Old Trafford so soon, and he has only just signed a two-year deal with the club following a summer departure from Juventus He is also Real Madrid's record goalscorer with an incredible 450 goals in 438 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos in an outstanding nine-year spell in the Spanish capital. Steven Gerrard's Perfect Response To Sir Alex Ferguson Saying He Wasn't 'A Top, Top Player'

Image
New Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard had a very honest response to Sir Alex Ferguson not rating him as highly as many others did. In his 2013 autobiography, Fergie wrote: "I'm one of the few who felt Gerrard was not a top, top player." The Liverpool legend was asked about those surprising comments during an appearance on The Clare Balding Show a few years back and admitted he was "a little but gutted" but "won't sleep lose over it". He also revealed that he once had a trial as a youngster and Fergie later made an attempt to bring him to Manchester United when he was a first-teamer. "I went on trial at Manchester United when I was 13 and had a letter off them wanting to sign me on a seven-year-deal," Gerrard said on the BT Sport show. "I'm a huge fan of Alex Ferguson and what he's done in the game is fantastic, that's the reason why he's sold that many copies in the first week. I was genuinely...

Manchester United ready to trigger Brendan Rodgers contract clause if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked

Image
Manchester United want to appoint a British coach as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's successor and are confident interest in Brendan Rodgers will be reciprocated. Manchester United are prepared to trigger a clause in Brendan Rodgers' contract to make him their next manager should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be sacked. Solskjaer's future at Old Trafford is looking increasingly bleak following back-to-back home defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City, leaving the club nine points off the pace after just 11 games. The Norweigan still has backing at boardroom level, though Rodgers is top of the list of possible replacements as the club look to appoint a British successor. As reported by the Daily Star, Old Trafford chiefs believe Rodgers would be keen on taking the job, provided a deal can be struck with his club Leicester. Rodgers would be reluctant to leave the Foxes but knows there is little more he can realistically achieve there - and would find the chance to manage United al...

The stories from Premier League academies: Footballer Jeremy Wisten killed himself after he was released by Manchester City, an inquest heard.

Image
Jeremy Wisten's death and inquest has focused more attention on the reality of Premier League academies and the stories of some of the thousands of young footballers who don't make it - as well as the 0.012% who do. It's estimated that of the 1.5 million players who are playing organised youth football in England at any one time, around 180 will make it as a Premier League professional. BBC Sport has covered several academy players' stories - including Deese Kasinga's release by Newcastle and Ben Johnson's journey to a top-flight debut with West Ham. More than three-quarters of academy players are dropped between the ages of 13 and 16. In 2017, Deese Kasinga, who was playing at Newcastle United's academy, became one of those players. "You think you're mentally prepared for it until you go into the office and it actually comes out of their mouth and they're like, 'we're not going to extend your contract' and reality hits y...

Steven Gerrard: Aston Villa step up pursuit of Rangers manager.

Image
Aston Villa are stepping up moves to appoint Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and significant developments are expected in the next 48 hours. Villa are using the international break to consider their next move but expect to have a manager in place for the home game against Brighton on 20 November. It looks increasingly likely former Liverpool and England captain Gerrard, 41, will be in charge for that game. Dean Smith was sacked on Sunday after a run of five successive league defeats. Belgium coach Roberto Martinez also figured in the Villa hierarchy's discussions but Gerrard has always been the favourite and efforts to finalise an appointment will intensify before the weekend. Gerrard's work in revitalising Rangers and recapturing the Scottish title in 2021 from Celtic - who had won it for each of the previous nine seasons - has impressed Villa's hierarchy and put his name at the forefront of list of targets. He is admired and respected by Villa chief executive C...
